On December 14, 2005, I was diagnosed with the breast cancer (third level). The news came as a complete surprise and caught me totally unprepared. It was definitely the worst day of my life but what made it even worse was that I was quite well informed about cancer and therefore had some idea of what to expect. I had never seriously considered the reality of God nor my lack of relationship and responsibility to Him until September 1983 when I lay seriously ill on a hospital bed in Santa Fe, New Mexico. There, in an isolation room in St. Patrick’s Hospital, the doctor told me they had finally diagnosed my illness; the antibiotic I would have to take was known to be potentially lethal for some patients but there was no viable alternative.

I was shocked. I agreed to take the medicine but that night I could not sleep. Where will I go if I die now? For the first time in my life, I took an honest look at myself. And when I did so my conscience was troubled, because, whereas I had always perceived myself to be a good person, now I saw myself as one with something fundamentally wrong within. Healing of our daughter brought us in relationship with our creator | Inder Mulchandani

Greetings to you in the sweet name of Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

My name is Inder Mulchandani. I belong to a traditional Hindu family. I would like to share with you my real life story (personal testimony) as to how God healed our daughter from a terminal illness and changed our lives by introducing us to our saviour, Jesus Christ. I want you to know that I did not convert my religion but I have found the true God. My testimony goes like this:

In 1996, I met Anjali, a catholic girl on the reception counter of one of my customer’s office in Dubai. After several visits, we became friends which became later an emotional affair which concluded in our marriage in in 1998. To us a beautiful daughter was born in 2001; we gave her the name Janvi. After around 10 months of her birth, we noticed some swelling in her eyes, which grew so much as if eyes would fall out. We took her to a hospital from where we were referred to a bigger hospital in Sharjah. Doctors did all kinds of tests including ultrasound and blood test and finally gave us the shock of our lives.

I love an unbeliever, may be I can save him along!

But I love a non-believer and I am sure I will be able to bring him or her to my faith after marriage. Probably God wants to save one soul by this.

May be, but to me the probability looks very less.

We must understand that it could be a deception of devil to take us away from God than our genuine effort to save the soul. God wants to save souls, this is His agenda but he would not compromise on the way it should be done. When He asks not to be unequally yoked with unbeliever, He means it.

If you are unable to witness the love of Jesus to this person before marriage, there is hardly a chance that you would be able to do it after it. Especially for girls in Indian society, it could be even harder to persuade her spouse to believe in what she believes. This may rather affect her own spiritual growth and draw her away from fellowship and eventually from God Himself. Think! Are you not bringing obstacles in your own spiritual growth? Decision is all yours.

Is the news of forceful religious conversion true?

I have heard that Christians do religious conversions forcefully or by luring poor people through money or other benefits like education or medical facilities. Bible does not teach so. The real Christianity would not suggest anything like this and if it has happened in past and present, it is regrettable. From my experience I can firmly say that it did not happen with me and I have not seen it happening so far. Probably I would be the first person to object if I see so.

Our God is not religious, but He is a spiritual being and He is interested in saving souls from hell and bringing them in His kingdom (heaven) to have fellowship with them because He loves them. So for Him as well His real disciple, religion is of least concern.

“God is Spirit, and his worshippers must worship in spirit and in truth.”

[John 4:24]

If we are true disciples of Christ, religious conversion is out of picture. It is a deception, a show-off which does not have any substance in it. Change of the inner man is the true transformation from darkness to light and from death to life.

Jesus did not initiate any religion and hence not even once in the Bible, he mentioned to do religious conversion. He rather asked to witness His love and salvation to the ends of the earth so that peoples from all nations may receive salvation of their souls.

My Testimonial

I was born in India of Hindu parents in February, 1977. I was educated in Jaipur till my graduation and did my post graduation from IIT-Roorkee, India in Earth Sciences in Applied Geology.

While I was in the college, I met a Hindu girl, who was a born again believer (Yeshu Bhakt). She shared the good news of God’s love through his Son Jesus Christ with me and gifted me a Gideon Bible. I did not read this book immediately but after a thorough analysis of various religious books and concluding that Bible is the only true word of God, I began to pray to this stranger God and study the Bible deeply.

I experienced a life-transforming encounter with the God.

Out of my early research of the religions and further study of the religious scriptures and eventually Bible, I formed few conclusions:

  • first, that all religions are same (ways devised by man to find and reach God by the means of our good deeds), good for learning the noble ways of living lives but difficult to practice due to its cumbersome rituals. I concluded that religion fails in helping us in meeting God;
  • second, that God is not a distant being who cannot be reached out even with so many efforts; rather He loves each one of us that He came down to meet us as a man, Jesus Christ, who lived with us, died for us and was resurrected to restore us into His heavenly kingdom, so that we may live with Him eternally.
  • thirdly, God is not angry and fierce God who will scare the life out of us and waiting to kill us for our sins but He is a loving God who cares and loves to the point that He sent his own son (incarnation) as human being to pay the price of our sins, redeem us from death (punishment) and reconcile us to God
